LOW MINTAGE NGC AU55 1876-S $10
Because of its low mintage of just 5,000 coins, the 1876-s gets more love than just about every With Motto eagle from San Francisco. It is scarce in AU55, although there were four nice PCGS coins in this grade from the Fairmont Hoard which, in turn, significantly impacted the value of this date in this grade range.
This is a lustrous example with attractive natural reddish-gold color over typically abraded surfaces. A mark on the throat of Liberty is detracting.
The most recent sale of an 1876-S $10 graded AU55 by NGC was Heritage 4/2021: 4637 at $14,400. The most recent sale of a PCGS AU55 was Stack’s Bowers 11/2023: 3212 which brought $17,400.
