NGC MS60 1857-S HALF EAGLE
Were it not for a small number of outstanding examples, the 1857-S half eagle would be almost unobtainable in any Uncirculated grade.
This honey-gold semi-reflective coin is strictly unworn but there are some scattered obverse marks plus a long, shallow reverse scrape beneath STATES.
Only two NGC MS-60 1857-S half eagles have ever sold at auction. These are Stack’s Bowers 2023 ANA: 6584 at $6,300, and Heritage 3/2019 at $7,200.
