PCGS MS62 1876-S QUARTER EAGLE
The 1876-S is a scarce issue in MS62 and it is rare in MS63 or finer. I believe that a hoard of a few dozen coins existed at one time and today, most of the coins in the AU58 to MS63 range have a similar appearance.
This piece is very lustrous with strong yellow-gold color seen on both sides. A diagnostic mint-made bar on the throat of Liberty adds character.
A pair of CAC approved PCGS MS62 1876-S Quarter eagles were sold a few years back with one bringing $9,900 as Heritage 10/2022: 3852, and another selling for $9,000 as Heritage 4/2021: 4547. The last non-CAC PCGS MS62 1876-S quarter eagle to sell at auction brought $3,163 in August 2011.
