Given the excessive rarity of the 1854-S, the 1855-S is essentially a first-collectible-year-of-issue San Francisco half eagle. It is scarce in the higher AU grades and it remains exceedingly rare in uncirculated with just two known to me.
Minimal wear and 100% natural russet and peripheral rose color makes this unmarked coin a really nice coin with bona-fide eye appeal.
No CAC approved AU55 NGC 1855-S $5 has sold at auction. The two most recent APRs for PCGS 55s are $5,053 (7/2023) and $6,900 (3/2023)
CAC has approved eight in AU55 with six finer.
