OVERLOOKED 1875-S HALF EAGLE, AN NGC AU55 EXAMPLE
Fewer than 100 exist from a mintage of 9,000 but the 1875-S is overshadowed by its P mint cousin which remains a major rarity with under 10 business strikes known.
This is a nice medium orange-gold example with decent surfaces and luster.
Two nice PCGS/CAC AU55 1875-S half eagles from the Fairmont hoard, sold for $13,200 and $14,400 in the different 2022 auctions. No NGC AU55 has sold since 2019.
