The 1864 is the third scarcest Civil War double eagle from Philadelphia after the 1862 and the 1863. The vast majority of AU55 (and AU58) coins have been enhanced and only a small number meet my criteria of “originality.”
This is a very high-end coin for the grade with rich natural honey-gold color over lustrous lightly abraded surfaces.
In June 2024, Stack’s Bowers sold an 1864 $20 in PCGS/CAC AU55 for $17,400. In August 2023, the same firm auctioned a non-CAC PCGS AU55 for $15,600.
