1855-O HALF EAGLE GRADED VF35 BY PCGS WITH CAC APPROVAL
The 1855-O is the third scarcest half eagle from New Orleans, trailing just the 1847-O and the 1842-O.
I grad this coin “VF38” as it is more lustrous than your typical choice VF but it shows just a hair too much wear on the wingtips to be accurately graded a full EF40.The surfaces are clean while the color is natural. Overall, a much nicer coins for the grade than what is normally seen for a Liberty Head half eagle from this era.
The only recent auction comparable for an 1855-O half eagle in PCGS VF35 is a non-CAC at $3,360 as Stacks Bowers 11/2021: 3278.
CAC has approved two in VF35 with 12 finer.
