A common Dahlonega half eagle but not easily located in Choice AU with natural color and choice surfaces. This piece is very high end for the grade with nice honey-gold color and an absence of appreciable wear. There is plenty of luster seen on both sides and the overall eye appeal is well above-average for an AU53.
Two non-CAC PCGS AU53 1853-D half eagles were auctioned in 2024 and they realized $5,040 (11/2024) and $5,280 (6/2024). An NGC/CAC AU53 brought $5,160 as Heritage 2024 ANA: 5613.
A nice type coin and a good value at this price point.
CAC has approved 11 in this grade with 32 finer.
