COLLECTOR GRADE PCGS/CAC VG10 1865-S $10.00

Rare Inverted Date variety.

I regard the 1865-S Inverted Date (the other—and lesser known variety—shows a normal date) as the third rarest No Motto eagle from this mint, trailing only the 1864-S. Around 50-60 are known for both the varieties combined and many of these are newly repatriated coins which tend to be AU and valued in the $20,000-30,000++ range. Semi-affordable 1865-S tens are exceedingly scarce, and they are never as problem-free and charismatic as this coin.

Extensively worn but free of nasty hits or detracting hairlines, you wish this coin could talk and tell you all the cool stuff its been exchanged for!

If you appreciate true rarity but can’t pay the freight for a higher grade 1865-S Normal Date $10, you’ll absolutely love this coin.

CAC has approved two in this grade with seven finer.

Ex Heritage 9/2013: 5265 ($4,406).
