Prior to the discovery of 63 pieces in the S.S Republic recovery, examples of this date were infrequently seen above AU55. Very high-end AU58 coins are still not easy to locate and this example, with its undipped, unabraded rose-gold surfaces, represents just about the nicest available quality for the grade.
Just a single PCGS/CAC AU58 has sold at auction since late 2019 and it brought $6,600 as Stack’s Bowers 3/2023: 5292.
CAC has approved 44 in AU58 with just nine finer.
